Elevated City Guides: New York City

Welcome to New York. It’s been waiting for you.

If you haven’t been to NY, stop what you’re doing and book a flight. Even if you’ve been before but it was years ago, don’t hesitate to go back. And even if you’re not a “city” person - there is something for everyone in this concrete jungle. You can go on a cheap eats food tour of China Town, see a Broadway play or comedy show, visit the iconic sites and museums, or stroll around central park with a bagel in hand, or in our case, do it all!

Here’s our top recs on how to have an amazing weekend.

Where to Stay:

As always, the answer depends on your budget. There are AirBnBs, but from our experience, it’s best to choose a hotel for convenience and security. We recently stayed in the West Village and the location was 10/10.

High End:

  • Gansevoort Meatpacking

  • The Standard Highline

Mid Range:

  • Any Hilton Property (but avoid Times Square!)

Where to eat and drink:

The list is honestly ENDLESS, but here are a few of our favorites (or ones that came highly recommended):

  • Pizza: Bleeker Street, Mama’s Too, Scarr’s, Prince Street

  • Cocktails: Panorama Room, Gansevoort Rooftop, Angel’s Share, Tigre, Attaboy, Double Chicken Please

  • Dinner: Beauty & Essex, iSodi, Via Carota, Attaboy, Momofuku Noodle Bar, Bar Pitti

  • Lunch: Chelsea Market, Russ & Daughter’s, Cookshop

  • Bagels: Best Bagel, Essa-Bagel, Post Bagel

  • And don’t forget to check out China Town! Check IG for the best recs on where to go

What to do:

Walk, walk, and walk some more. Our favorite walking path is the Highline - a 1.5 mi long elevated greenway that used to be an old railroad. You can also walk to Little Island and all along the Empire State Trail, which is a great place to safely ride bikes in the city since there is a dedicated bike lane.

Comedy Show: The Comedy Cellar. Reserve your spot ahead of time but know you’ll wait in a line beforehand, you won’t know who the comics are, and you have to put your phones in a sealed bag during the show. It’s all part of the experience!

Broadway: There are many plays running throughout the year on- and off-Broadway. Purchase tickets in advance or roll the dice and get discounted tickets day of.

Happy travels,

H+E
