Trend Alert: Globe Chandeliers

I always feel like I have to start out blog posts about trends with this disclaimer: trends are temporary styles that reflect what society is interested at the time and usually fade after a few years. Trends come and go and it usually isn’t a good idea to invest a lot of time or money into a ‘trendy’ idea. HOWEVER, trends are fun and they become popular for a reason, so it’s ok to incorporate a few trends into your space if it’s something you really love at the time. At one point in time I loved rocking my super skinny jeans and checkered vans. Would I wear that now? Absolutely not. But did I feel fun and confident when I went out in that outfit? 100%.

When decorating our homes, a good rule with trends is make sure 80% of your items are timeless and 20% reflect current trends. This 20% can be things like small decor items, a paint color, a light fixture and other things that are easy to swap out after a few years if you tire of them.

Ok. Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, one trend I happen to be loving right now are the paper globe chandeliers. I’ve been seeing them all over social media and in every room they catch my eye. Why?

  • The circular shape is a welcome contrast to the square shapes we find in art, tables, and the shape of the room itself

  • The rice paper texture adds a light breezy feel to the space and is something our eyes can easily rest upon

  • The white color goes with almost any style from mid-century modern to Parisian chic to eclectic boho

  • They are super light weight, which means easier to install, safe for kids rooms and nurseries, and renter friendly

Here are some of my favorite pendant lights you can buy online:

  1. Rice Paper Shade / 2. Nelson Bubble Pendant Ball / 3. Ball Criss Cross Bubble Pendant / 4. Formakami Paper Pendant / 5. Moon Paper Oversized Pendant Light / 6. Nelson Apple Bubble Pendant

ELEVATED TIP: In order to determine the proper size chandelier for your room, measure the length and width of the room in feet. Add them together and that number in inches should be the width of the chandelier.

  • Example: If my room is 11ft by 9ft, 11+9=20. My chandelier should be 20” in diameter.
