top color trends 2022
Ok, I have to start this post with two disclaimers right up front. One: I realize we are halfway through the year so it may seem like a weird time to be calling out color trends when most people may do this at the beginning of the year. Two: the word ‘trend’ brings up mixed feelings in the design world because in general, we don’t want to rely heavily on decor that is trending at the moment and in 2 or 3 years we absolutely hate.
That being said, I personally believe that July is a great time to evaluate what colors we have seen be successful so far and to take a look at how designers have used them in spaces to inspire us in our own homes. Also when it comes to ‘trends,’ remember that interior design is influenced by what’s going on in the world around us at that moment in time. For example, since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been movements towards more natural materials to help us feel connected with the outdoors.
Elevated Tip: when selecting a paint color, always always test it with samples. Paint a square that’s at least 1ftx1ft and on every wall in the room. And check on it multiple times of day to see how that changing light affects the color.
Let’s get into it!
Grey green
October Mist Benjamin Moore
Evergreen Fog Sherwin Williams
2022 has been the year for grey green. It’s having a moment on kitchen cabinets, bathrooms, and bedrooms, where it helps relax and soothe but also signifies rebirth and new life to help you start your day off right.
Steele Grey
Iron Ore Sherwin Williams
Wrought Iron Benjamin Moore
Cracked Pepper BEHR
These deep dark greys don’t lean too blue or purple and make them perfect for painting furniture, accent walls, and doors. They are bold and moody without being too stark black.
Warm whites
Steam Benjamin Moore
Whisper White BEHR
Shoji White Sherwin Williams
White will always be in style and so far this year we have seen a lot of warm whites take center stage in bedrooms, living rooms, and cabinets. Not only do they add warmth and versatility but they also instantly make a room feel cozy and inviting. And since we’ve all been spending a little more time at home lately, these are the exact feelings we want from a room.
